Tongabezi Safari Houses are luxury safari cottages set along the Zambezi River, 11 miles upstream from Victoria Falls. Four unique and individual houses set in a tranquil grove of ebony trees with stunning views across the Zambezi, built with romance and indulgence in mind. Your private balcony overlooking the river is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner under the stars, or you can choose to dine on one of the river decks. Hewn into the cliff face, they are built and furnished with local materials designed to complement and enhance the natural surroundings, whilst creating a feeling of intimacy and privacy. Great attention has been paid to the bathroom areas and a special feature is the huge open-air sunken bath in every house, where you can unwind to the serenades of an African evening. With a ratio of four staff to every guest, you can be assured that your every desire is pampered too, ensuring a luxurious and relaxing stay. Dominating each house is the huge, king-size bed, complete with luxurious down pillows and duvet, and a magnificent, airy four-poster net, so your sleeping comfort is assured.

Tongabezi's Livingstone Island Tour:
Perched on the edge of the Victoria Falls in the very midst of this thundering mass of water, Livingstone Island is the place from where Dr Livingstone first viewed the Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke That Thunders). We offer three daily excursions to the island: the early morning trip is followed by a light snack; the lunch time trip includes a full lunch; and the afternoon visit is followed by tea. Numbers are limited to twenty. Your visit begins with a thrilling ride through the channels of the Zambezi in our twin-engine boats. Thereafter, you will be taken on a guided exploration of the island: learning about its long history, from ancient times, when it was a sacrificial site, to the present day, as a protected World Heritage Site. During this exploration of Livingstone Island, which was named in honour of the famous explorer, you will truly understand the real power of this Wonder of the World, as the churning mass of water rushes past you before its headlong flight into the deep chasm below. Take a heart-stopping peek over the island's edge to the churning mass below. After the tour, you can relax and enjoy refreshments under the shade of our canopied dining area with a view of the Falls that is quite unique. For those of you who are keen on a swimming experience unlike any other, you can even brave the waters of this mighty river in the island's very own bathing pool, which forms each year amongst the rocks along the edge of the Falls.
