Xigera Safari Lodge
Located in a 14,000-acre wetland area of the Okavango Delta, on a place named Paradise Island. All areas of the camp overlook the permanent water channel, which is shared by and open to all other camps in the Moremi game reserve. Situated on one of the Okavango's key waterways, it is surrounded by picturesque papyrus swamps and wooded islands and is renowned for the highest density of the elusive sitatunga antelope in the Delta.
Each of Xigera’s 12 guest suites sits on raised stilts for views of the Okavango. The generously proportioned bathrooms provide the choice of indoor and outdoor showers, complemented by freestanding baths that offer panoramic views of the Okavango wilderness. A two-bedroomed Family Suite, provides privacy and comfort for 4 persons traveling together. Modern amenities in all rooms include a flat-screen TV and Wi-Fi access.
Not known for big game, mammal sightings do include red lechwe, spotted-necked otter, vervet monkey, elephant, impala and tsessebe, with predators such as leopard, spotted hyaena, and occasionally lion. This concession is a delight for birdwatchers, many of the key swamp-dwelling specialists being present, notably Pel's Fishing-Owl, African skimmer, brown firefinch, greater swamp warbler, wattled crane, African pygmy goose, Luapula cisticola and lesser jacana. Common species include a variety of kingfishers and other waterbirds.
After sunset, guests are invited to savor the culinary delights under the African sky at the boma, which serves as the vibrant centerpiece of Xigera Safari Lodge. The striking totemic sculpture, "Structure of Self," crafted by artist / blacksmith Conrad Hicks, commands attention within the enclosure, creating a captivating ambiance around the crackling campfire at its center. The Xigera Art and Design collection showcases bespoke creations tailored specifically for the lodge, crafted in collaboration between Toni Tollman, Philip Fourie, Anton de Kock, and the acclaimed South African gallery, Southern Guild.

The story of Xigera Safari Lodge is one of renewal. Of rebirth and family legacy, and of the pioneering spirit that drives us to seek out Africa’s wild spaces. The same spirit that inspired this remarkable reimagining, perhaps a complete reinvention, of an Okavango Delta safari. This month in the Okavango Delta, we experienced a number of thunderstorms. Interestingly, these conditions appeared to favor the lions, granting them an advantage in their hunting endeavors.

In Summer 2024, Xigera witnessed frequent appearances of majestic herds, ranging from red lechwe, impala, and blue wildebeest to buffalos and warthogs accompanied by their adorable piglets. One of two resident Xigera males was spotted patrolling his territory right in front of the Suites at Xigera, offering guests a thrilling safari experience from the comfort of their decks. These majestic brothers dominate this part of our concession, spending their time patrolling and protecting the females, who are now expecting cubs. Their vigilance is heightened as they remain ever-watchful for any intruding males attempting to encroach upon their territory.
